How to calculate data cost per GB
OrangeTool · Updated
Divide the plan price by the data allowance in GB. A 30 GB plan priced at 300 costs 10 per GB. A proportional estimate for 10 GB is 100 before additional fees.
Keep units consistent
For decimal data units, 1000 MB equals 1 GB and 1000 GB equals 1 TB. Binary units use 1024 MiB per GiB and 1024 GiB per TiB. Do not label a binary allowance as GB when comparing plans. The calculator accepts both families and labels the resulting unit rate.
Separate the bundle price from a usage estimate
If you buy a fixed 30 GB bundle, using only 10 GB does not usually reduce the bill to one third. The proportional cost is useful for comparing usage value, allocating a shared expense or estimating a metered service. Your provider’s actual bundle, overage and tax rules still control the bill.
Work through the fees
At 300 for 30 GB, the unit rate is 10 per GB. For 10 GB, usage cost is 300 × 10 ÷ 30 = 100. If the estimate also needs a fixed fee of 5, the total is 105. Enter all prices in one currency. Include a fixed fee only once.
Compare fairly
Use the same period, units and included services when comparing two plans. A lower price per GB may still be poor value if the allowance expires before you can use it. The calculator uses your prices and does not retrieve live provider offers.
